Frequently asked questions

We want to make your experience in Morocco as enjoyable and stress-free as possible! Here are some of the top questions that we get asked by guests about travelling and surfing in Morocco.

WHICH AIRPORT CAN I FLY TO?

Our nearest airport is Agadir (Al-Massira), and we can arrange airport transfers for you from the airport to your surf accommodation in Tamraght.
If you choose to fly into Marrakech airport, you can take the CTM or SupraTours bus direct from Marrakech to Agadir and we can arrange transport from the Agadir bus terminal to Tamraght.

DO I NEED A VISA?

Nope! You won't need a visa in advance. In most cases, you will be given 90 days to spend in Morocco upon entry.  On the flight over, you will be asked to fill out an entry card that will include your passport details, your reason for travel in Morocco, and the address of where you’ll be staying.  Along with this card, you will need to present your passport and it is always a good idea to have a copy of your travel itinerary and return flight just in case there are any questions.

WHAT IS THE CURRENCY? WHERE CAN I GET IT?

The local currency is Moroccan Dirhams. It's also a good idea to call your bank before leaving your home country and alert them about your travels in Morocco so that you can use your debit/credit card while here. There are no cash machines in Tamraght, but there are in our neighbouring village of Aourir, which is just a 3 minute drive away.

We are also happy to help you exchange currency when you arrive, so just ask :)

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Aside from clothes and basic toiletries/essentials, you won’t need much else here!  We will provide you with a wetsuit, surfboard, and bath/shower towels.
Useful things you will want to bring: beach towel, sun lotion (factor 30+ suggested), sunglasses, flip flops/sandals, trainers/sport shoes (for walking), small beach bag or backpack, and a phone/laptop/tablet should you want to use a device for wifi.

WHAT CLOTHES SHOULD I BRING?

You’ll be in the water most of the time, so a good selection of swimming suits and boardshorts are always a good idea. We’ll provide your wetsuit, so no worries there.  You’ll want flip flop/sandals and a decent pair of sport shoes for walking and day trips. When in the village, shorts - t-shirt - flip flops is everyone’s most common attire (plus a hoodie or light jacket in the cooler months).

The culture in this part of the country is more relaxed than other places, it's always good to be  Come with a fun selection of shorts, light fabric trousers, sun dresses, and a light jacket and you’re all good!

I'M TRAVELLING ALONE! WHAT SHOULD I KNOW?

You’re never alone at Azrac Surf Morocco! We’ll share meals and surf time together and you’re guaranteed to make friends during your time here.  If you are traveling to us from another part of Morocco, feel free to email with your plans and we can advise on the easiest way to arrive.  No need to worry about safety when traveling solo - Morocco is a very safe country and cross-country travel is easy and very inexpensive. Our staff has traveled all over the country and are happy to advise on routes and share travel tips.

I'M VEGETARIAN. IS THAT GOING TO BE A PROBLEM?

No problem at all! All meals are homemade using only the best local ingredients. Let us know if you’re vegetarian, vegan, or if you have other dietary restrictions so that we can customise your meals with us. When you choose to dine out, most cafes have vegetarian options on the menu, so you should not have a problem finding something tasty to eat.

CAN I HAVE A POST-SURF BEER?

Of course you can! Tamraght is a dry village, meaning no alcohol is sold here. Your best bet is to purchase alcohol in Agadir (most large supermarkets carry beer/wine/alcohol) and bring them with you.  If you would like to purchase alcohol in Agadir upon your arrival, just ask your driver to take you to the supermarket and you can pick it up on the way!

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT?

The surf is consistent throughout the year, but the best months to come would be between October and late April. If you are totally new to surfing, the summer months might be a great fit, as the waves can be less challenging during this time of year. If you are a more experienced surfer and want to enjoy some of the bigger swells, October - February are the months with more consistent swells.

I'VE NEVER SURFED BEFORE! IS THAT A PROBLEM?

No problem-o!  We love newcomers at Azrac, and our surf instructors are trained to teach all skill levels - even total beginners. Before you even step in the water, you’ll learn the basics of surfing, safety and equipment, how to move with your board, and eventually - how to catch waves on your own.

HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL I BE SURFING WITH?

We are one of the smaller surf camps in the area, offering a more personal surfing experience. We keep our surf groups small, with no more than 6 surfers to one instructor/guide, so that you get lots of attention both in and out of the water.
Check out our selection of surf packages for more info on what you will learn during your stay with us!

HOW'S THE NIGHTLIFE?

Tamraght is a sleepy village and stays pretty quiet and relaxed day and night. Our neighbor village (Taghazout) is a bit more lively at night, but most activity is contained in the surf houses and/or occasional beach parties.
If you want a proper night out, consider taking a collective taxi to Agadir to hit the bar/club scene. Transportation back to the village can be more expensive during late hours, but we are happy to arrange return transport for you to the city!

WHAT'S THE WEATHER LIKE?

With over 300 sunny days per year, the weather is great! Mornings vary between slightly overcast and sunny, afternoons are delightful with temperatures ranging between 20-30 degrees (a little warmer in the summer months).  Evenings are similar, but a little cooler, so its always good to bring a jacket for nighttime outings.

WHAT'S THE WATER TEMPERATURE?

In the winter months, the average temperature is 17-18 degrees. Summer months range from 20-25 degrees.
During the winter months, a 3.2 wetsuit is warm enough to surf in, and a shortie is great for the spring/summer months.
