Winter swells in Morocco

Anchor Point in it's element

After long, hazy summers of surf and après-surf, travellers say 'adios' to the European surf towns, chasing the sun and heading South to the warmer climates of Morocco.
The Moroccan coastline is revived after it's summer rest, and the waves are a plenty, consistent and welcomed.

The surf community is as vibrant as ever - happy to see faces old and new in the line-up, and excited for what the season's swell will deliver.

With warm weather and waves, Morocco is a surfer's hot-spot during the winter months. Home to a stretch of coastline exposed to the North Atlantic, with firing point breaks and sandy-bottomed sheltered spots, there's something for all levels of surfer.

Some of Morocco's Winter delights
With dominant North-Westerly swells from the Atlantic, the Moroccan coastline is a surf magnet! Drive along the coast between Agadir and Essaouira and you'll find a range of point breaks, reef and sandy beaches, all firing and pumping with swell.

Here's a taster of some of our favourite local spots to check out in the winter months...

Anchor Point (7 minute drive North from Azrac Surf)
Probably Morocco's most well known surf spot, first surfed in the 60's and still as popular as it was back then! A powerful right hander that needs a large NW swell to get going. Long, fast barrels on the inside and a local hot-spot to hang out when the waves are firing!

One surfer gets lucky at Anchor Point
Killers (7 minute drive North from Azrac Surf)
The most consistent of the point breaks in Taghazout working at low tide on small swells. Expect fast right-handers that break over flat reef, and plenty of barrels on offer when the swell picks up!

Draculas
The name says it all... named after the 'vampire teeth' rocks, it handles larger swells and offers a big sets and plenty of fast righthanders!

Boilers (20 minute drive up the coast)
Featured in Taylor Steele's Sipping Jetstreams, this spot shows everything that this coast has to offer! Paddle out between the old ship wreck and ship boiler, and enjoy the powerful righthanders that wash over the shallow reef below. Known for sea urchins, so best to wear boots!

Banana Beach - home to tagines, bananas and long right handers!
Banana Point (less than 5 minutes from Azrac Surf)
Famous for its Tagines and home-grown bananas, plus one of the best spots for longboarders. Expect looooong righthanders at low tide, and a great photo spot on the top overlooking the rocks.

Our surf guiding package is designed for the more experienced surfer, offering a taste of the local surf spots in their element. Our local surf guides take you to the area's premier breaks whilst sharing their local knowledge. We keep our surf groups small, so that you get a more personalised surfing experience, and with a range of local surf spots to choose from, there's something to suit everyone's taste and style.
