At Azrac Surf we believe that yoga and surfing are married together in one crazy, body-positive union and after a long day of battling the surf, nothing beats a good stretch and unwind with yoga. Here we outline, with the help of our lovely yoga guru Sarah, what poses are really good for a post-surf recoup. Hands behind head in a lungeThis pose really opens up the chest, whilst stretching the legs and opening your hips. Make sure you push down through your feet and engage your core to promote a sturdy stance. Child's pose with hands in prayerAdding a prayer position to the traditional child's pose works to not only create space in your hips, but also your chest. Side body stretchA really satisfying pose, especially after a long surf, the side body stretch allows your shoulders to open up, stretching down your side, providing much needed relief for tired muscles. Over bolster with beltSit with the base of your spin as close to the bolster cushion as you can, secure the belt, put it over your body, loop it around your feet and lie back with your arms open. Use blocks to support your knees to control the hip stretch. Make sure the belt attachment is away from your feet and adjusted to suit your body. SalabhasanaSalabhasana is a great back-bend that is perfect for beginners. Like this, the pose opens up the chest, however if you're feeling confident, you can try to lift your feet for a couple of seconds too, to enjoy a little extra stretch. Après-surf yoga is about opening up your shoulders and hips and relaxing the muscles you've been using all day in the water. Surfing is tough on your body, but with a little help from your friend yoga, you'll feel absolutely great! Planning your next surf adventure?
